When: May to November
Between May and November, you may be able to spot southern right whales or humpback whales from a number of Gippsland vantage points.
In late autumn, whales head north, either solo or in small groups in search of warmer waters for the winter and return south in springtime to the cooler Antarctic waters for the summer.
Bring your binoculars and try the best vantage points along the East Gippsland coast including:
- Port Albert
- Anywhere along Ninety Mile Beach
- Lakes Entrance
- Lake Tyers Beach
- Point Hicks Lighthouse (Croajingolong National Park)
